Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was among the nine goalscorers as Atalanta began their 2023/24 pre-season campaign on a blistering note.

Lookman, after a decent first season for Gian Piero Gasperini side where he scored 13 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions, has proved his worth again in his very first pre-season game for Atalanta.

Atalanta thrashed Representatives of Clusone City 10-1 to begin preparations for the coming Serie A season on a flyer.

Ederson opened the scoring for Atalanta when he put them ahead in the first half with a well-taken goal, to become the first goalscorer for Atalanta this pre-season.

But that was just the beginning for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men, as new signings Adopo and Bakker scored as well to end the first half 3-0 in favour of Atalanta.

In the second half, Atalanta continued the pressure and they got their fourth goal four minutes into the second period through Joakim Maehle to put the result beyond any reasonable doubt.

It became a one-way course for Gasperini's men who scored four more goals through Koopmeiners, Zappacosta, Zortea and Højlund to lead 8-0 before Representatives of Clusone City pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute which proved to be a mere consolation goal.

Atalanta were not done though, as the 25-year-old Super Eagles player who had started his journey from the bench came on to help his team pile more misery on their hapless opponents.

Nigeria's Lookman came off the bench later in the second half to grab a brace after Representatives of Clusone City were 8-1 down on the day to finish the match 10-1.

Atalanta will look to make it two wins from two matches when they play their second pre-season game, and of course, Lookman would love to continue his scoring form.
