Olayinka focused on more wins after 100th Slavia cap

Nigerian forward Peter Olayinka says he is focused on winning more games with Slavia Prague after scoring twice in his 100th Czech league game last weekend.

Olayinka scored a brace in Prague’s emphatic 4-1 triumph over Bohemians 1905 to mark his milestone appearance in style.

The Nigeria international, who can play across the front line, has been impressive in the Czech topflight league this season, notching four goals and three assists from eight appearances.

In that landmark match, the 26-year-old was on the pitch for 90 minutes and scored in the third and 79th minute.

“The match was cool, good for us. We panicked a bit when they scored, but we turned it around. I think my shot helped us turn it around. Everyone understood what we had to do — work even harder. In the end we managed it and got three points, “ Olayinka told the club’s website.

It is the fifth win in a row for Prague, with the Nigerian adding that the team is focused on winning their games before the World Cup break.

“Our team spirit is back! You can see that everyone is ready and focused. They understand the importance of winning for the team and the fans. The mood in the cabin is very good now,” Olayinka added.

“We will do what we do best. Now we just have to focus on the remaining games, we have to win them to keep our concentration and winning streak and be ready for the winter.

“It is important for us to see that they (Bohemians 1905) are behind us. They pushed us to the limit of our possibilities. When we see them (fans), everyone knows that we cannot disappoint and we have to win every game for them. We are happy that they came to support us.”

Since moving to Slavia Prague in 2018 from Belgian side Gent, Olayinka has scored 26 goals and contributed 10 assists in 100 league appearances.

The Nigeria international has enjoyed a scintillating run in the current 2022/23 season in terms of goals, assists and contributions to the team.

In total, he has four goals and three assists in eight league appearances.

The Nigerian is expected to be in the starting XI as Prague play league leaders Viktoria Plzeň on Saturday in an away fixture in the Czech topflight.
