Ahmed Musa the captain of the Super Eagles celebrated his 31st birthday in style today 14 October 2023.

Musa was born in Jos, Plateau State, on October 14, 1992. He is best referred to as a “J-town boy” because he was born in Jos but the Nigerian international is originally from Borno State.

Musa posted a picture on his official social media platform to celebrate the special occasion. He also marked his birthday with a mansion as a gift to himself on the occasion.

Family, friends and fans wished him well on his birthday as they all have fond memories of the joy he brought in his peak days as he donned the jersey of the Super Eagles team.

Super Eagles debut at age of 17

Ahmed Musa boasts of appearing for the Super Eagles at just the age of 17 years.

On 5 August 2010, at the age of 17, Musa made his debut for the Nigeria senior team in a qualification match for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations against Madagascar, where he came on as a substitute for John Mikel Obi in a 2-0 win.

It was a memorable day for the then young forward who joined the list of a few players who played for their country's senior team at a very young age.

The day Musa scored his first ever goal for the Super Eagles

Musa scored his first goal for the Super Eagles in a March 2011 friendly against Kenya. He will go on to score a further 15 goals in 108 appearances to bring his total tally for the Eagles to 16 goals as at the time of writing.

Musa scored twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup

After appearing in all of Nigeria's qualifying matches, Musa was named in Stephen Keshi's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He scored two goals in the team's final Group F match, a 3-2 defeat to Argentina and became the first Super Eagle to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match.

It will take some time before another Nigerian breaks Musa's World Cup records.

The first Super Eagle to score in back-to-back FIFA World Cup

Ahmed Musa became the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions, after scoring twice against Iceland in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He had previously scored twice against Argentina in the 2014 edition of the competition.

That day was a special one for the former Saudi Pro League winner, the man regarded as one of the greatest Eagles strikers, even though the team failed to advance from the group stage.

The day Musa became Nigeria's most capped player

In June 2019 he became the third most capped player for Nigeria's national team, surpassing Nwankwo Kanu, after appearing in a friendly against Zimbabwe. However, Musa was eyeing the ultimate prize and he achieved that in the next two years.

The Super Eagles captain became Nigeriaā€™s most-capped player after getting his 101st international cap in the teamā€™s 2-0 victory over Central African Republic in October 2021.

The feat saw him surpass former captains Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama who are both on 100 caps for Nigeria.

FIFA confirmed Musaā€™s new status as Nigeriaā€™s most-capped player in a post on Instagram. The world's football governing body shared Musaā€™s picture with the caption, ā€œAhmed Musa, most capped Nigerian player, 101 appearancesā€ to make the day one of the best moments for Ahmed Musa.

At the time of publication, Ahmed Musa has not retired and has 108 caps for Nigeria with 16 goals to his name.
