Super Eagles draw AFCON 2023 host, Equatorial Guinea & Guinea Bissau in Group A

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are placed in Group A to slug it out with the AFCON 2023 host Cote d'Ivoire in the AFCON draw which took place on Thursday night at the Parc des Expositions d'Abidjan in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire at 9:00 PM Nigerian Time.

The others in the Super Eagles group are Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.

The 24 qualified teams for the 2023 African Cup of Nations were drawn into six groups of four teams each. Achraf Hakimi, Sadio Mane, Didier Drogba and former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi assisted in the final draws in Abidjan.

Group B sees all-time AFCON winners Egypt go up against Ghana, Cape Verde and Mozambique, while Senegal are the top seeds in Group C, where they are drawn against Cameroon, Guinea and Gambia.

Group E emerged as the Group of Death with Tunisia, Mali, South Africa and Namibia.

The AFCON 2023 tournament will officially kick off on 13 January 2024, with the final game set to be played on 11 February 2024. Senegal are the defending champions who beat Egypt on penalties in the final of the 2021 edition in Cameroon.
