Nigeria have booked their ticket to the round of 16 in the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after playing out to a draw in the Republic of Ireland vs Super Falcons fixture on Monday morning.

The Super Falcons played a thoroughly entertaining clash with their Irish counterparts, who were already knocked out and playing for glory.

Nigeria qualified in second place behind hosts Australia, who thrashed Canada 3-0 in the other fixture of the group which was played at the same time.

Republic of Ireland 0 – 0 Nigeria: The match as it happened

Nigerian fans at the Brisbane arena were looking forward to another dominant Super Falcons performance after their showing against hosts Australia.

The Super Falcons came out guns blazing from the start this time around as the Republic of Ireland had shown that they were able to compete with the best of the best in their previous group games.

Uchenna Kanu, sorcerer of Nigeria’s first goal against Australia started alongside star striker Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade while Halimatu Ayinde kept her place in midfield beside Christy Ucheibe.

The match was a tough one with both sides exchanging attacks and coming close to opening the scoring on a number of occasions. In the end, it was the Super Falcons who would prevail despite a goalless draw.

Ireland were given a standing ovation for an excellent debut while the Super Falcons fans were rambunctious at the end of the game.
